Actuation

Actuation of linear axes
For the axis Wissner uses exclusively AC-servo-assisted engines. This is the
state-of-the-art system with full digital regulation and it is absolutely
maintenance-free.
The linear axes are moved mechanically by ball screws. A perfect zero backlash
results out of the pre-tension of the roller bearing ball towards the basic casing.
This guarantees a high durability at moderate costs. No adjustment needs to be
done for many years. These axes with this actuation can also be used for very
high accelerations of over 2 g (20 m/s²) without any danger.

Actuation of axes of rotation
Axes of rotation, for instance for swivel tables, swivel heads and Wissner´s
5-dimensional systems, are mainly at use for Torque engines. This is a direct
actuation system, whereas the stator diameter is about the nominal diameter of
the aggregate. Since the engine functions without any gearing it has many
advantages in comparison to engines with gears. The direct actuation does not
need any reversion mirror so that the axes can be used for most extreme
dynamics. Acceleration exists up to 100 m/s² (10 g) !
Because of fully digital regulators the engine is completely maintenance-free.
Additionally, the dynamic is very good - this is of special importance for changing
working diameters, as for 5-axial treatments for example.

The Torque engine requires quite a demanding security concept. As to fulfil the
requirements according rebound stops are included in the system, which prevent
any extreme or dangerous rotation to happen in case of an emergency, for example
a total break-down of the electronic system.
